Tech tools for the home-based business

I consider myself reasonably tech savvy, but with the range of technology available these days and the rapid pace of development, it takes so much time and energy to research and try out the tools to find the ones that do the job properly and are cost-effective. So when a friend can tell me what works for them, I'll listen! Here you go ðŸ˜‰

Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam
Full HD 1080p/30fps with Integrated Microphone for Video Calls. Works with PC/Mac/Laptop/MacBook/Tablet.

A reliable webcam with good video and audio quality is essential for my online coaching calls, classes, and social media videos. Having a separate webcam to the integrated camera on your laptop and smartphone enables more flexibility when setting up classes.  The Logitech C920 is a great webcam at a reasonable price. I tried a cheap unbranded one for about $40 - the audio was not clear so I returned it, and wished that I hadn't wasted my time 🙄.

Logitech Brio 4K Ultra HD Webcam
Have a bigger budget? The Logitech Brio 4K Ultra HD Webcam costs 2-3 times the C920 and is the best of the non-pro range. The C920 totally meets my current needs but the Brio is what I plan to get when I'm ready to upgrade. And who doesn't love a tech upgrade just because? 😉

WD 4TB Elements Hard Drive
Portable, USB 3.0, High Capacity Hard Drive

It's convenient to store your files on the Cloud - Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, etc - but you can never be too careful when it comes to confidential documents, precious photos, and important projects. Keep them on your laptop or desktop and back them up regularly on a hard drive. This one from WD Elements is compact and the 4TB good value for money. I use the SyncToy app with it.

USB Adaptors

Most new laptops have USB-C ports, and you'll need a USB-C to USB 3.0 adaptor for your hard drive. There are several choices: a compact 1:1 adaptor, multiple USB 3.0 outputs, or one with USB 3.0 and HDMI output to connect to another graphic display output (a second monitor or  TV screen) like the one shown here. This Plugable adaptor is similar to the one I use and it's super handy.
